taxa were cheatgrass, Russian wildrye, and shadscale with 24.8%, 7.0%, and 4.4% average cover,
respectively.
This unit passes the revegetation success criterion of 90% of the Shadscale Reference Area value
when both annual and perennial cover values are combined. It also passes when only perennial cover is
compared (Table 1).
The Substation B area currently passes three of the four diversity standards. The present relative
cover of perennial forbs or sub-shrubs and perennial cool-season grasses is sufficient to pass the required
minimum values, and there are no planted species with greater than 70% relative cover. Substation B
fails the diversity standard for total perennial warm-season grasses with only 0.0% relative cover.
Qualitative analysis indicates that this revegetation is in good condition overall. This unit exhibits
good shrub establishment and diversity of both shrubs and perennial grasses.
3.16 Greasewood Reference Area
The Greasewood Reference Area was established as a new area in 1999 and is located
approximately 1,500 feet northwest of the Cameo Refuse Disposal Area No. 1 along the east-facing
colluvial toe slope adjacent to the BLM Bookcliffs access road and the ephemeral drainage (Map 1).
Ground cover in this area consisted of 61.7% live vegetation, 0.8% rock, 27.5% litter, and bare soil
exposure of 10.1% (Table 3a). Perennial cover across the unit averaged 19.4% (down from 20.2% in
2006) with annual and biennial cover averaging 42.3% (down from 43.6% in 2006)). The dominant taxa
were cheatgrass, greasewood, filaree, and galleta (Hilaria jamesii) with 34.7%, 9.2%, 6.1%, and 3.4%
average cover, respectively.
3.17 Shadscale Reference Area
The Shadscale Reference Area is located near the Roadside South Portal on the west-facing slope
(see Map 1). Ground cover in this area consisted of 44.7% live vegetation, 28.3% rock, 20.6% litter, and
bare soil exposure of 6.5% (Table 3b). Perennial cover across the unit averaged 8.3% (up from 7.4% in
2006) with annual and biennial cover averaging 36.4% (down from 46.2% in 2006). The dominant taxa
were cheatgrass, filaree, and shadscale with 32.0%, 4.1%, and 3.5% average cover, respectively.
CEDAR CREEK ASSOCIATES, Inc.
