•
Project: Cripple Creek Hydrogeochemistry
Task: Neutralization of Pyrite Oxidation Products
• •
Date: 4/8/2008
Page 1-4
c. Store the sample unpreserved at 40C under nitrogen in an airtight opaque glass bottle until use.
4. South Cresson Sample: _
F-
a. Combine 800 ml from each of two consecutive weekly flushes from the coarse South Cresson HCT, 400 ml from each of two
consecutive weekly flushes from the Standard South Cresson HCT, and 400 ml from each of two consecutive weekly flushes
from the fine South Cresson HCT, for a total sample size of 3200 ml. In the event that one or more HCTs produce less than
the required volume, attempt to make up the sample volume with liquor from the excess of the other flush volumes.
b. Ta ke a 250 ml aliquot of the sample (leaving 2,950 ml-) and test for pH, conductivity, ORP, sulfate, acidity, alkalinity, TDS, Cl,
N03-N, HCO3, Al, Sb, As, Ba, Be, Bi, B, Cd, Ca, Cr, Co, Cu, Fe, Pb, Li, Mg, Mn, Hg, Mo, Ni, P04, K, Se, SiO2,
Ag, Na, Sr, Te, TI, Th, Sn, Ti, U, V, Zn, Zr.
c. Store the sample unpreserved at 40C under nitrogen in an airtight opaque glass bottle until use.
Natural calcite reagent
Anatural calcite neutralizing material shall be prepared as follows:
1. Combine 1 kg of each of the Cresson Pipe and the Squaw Gulch (high carbonate) samples, both crushed to #20 0 mesh.

2. Perform analyses specified below
a. NAG test.

_c. ABA characteristic
d. Leco Sulfur and Carbon.
Laboratory calcite reagent
A laboratory calcite reagent shall be procured that is minimum 99.5% pure ca lcium carbonate.
Calcium hydroxide_reagent
-
A_ 0.05 N
calcium hydroxide reagent shall be prepared by dissolving laboratory grade hydrated lime in distil led water.
The resulting reagent shall be sediment-free. The resulting reagent shall be analyzed for calcium and hydroxide alkalinity.
Sodium hydroxide reagent
A 0.1 N sodium hydroxide reagent shall be prepared or procured. The reagent shall be analyzed for sodium and hydroxide alkalinity.

Test 1: Neutralization by Natural Calcit_e_
Each HCT test liquor shall be subjected to the following test:
1. Take a 500 gram sample of the natural calcite reagent and place it in an inert tumbler.
2. Add 500 mL of the HCT test liquor (leaving 2,450 mL).
3. Roll the sample and liquor for 24 hours.
4. Decant liquid from sample container and filter using a 0.45 micron glass filter.
5. Anal yze the_resulting _liquid for pH, conductivity, ORP, sulfate, acidity, alkalinity, TDS, Cl, N03-N, HCO3, Al, Sb, As, Ba, Be, Bi, B,
Cd, Ca, Cr, Co, Cu, Fe, Pb, Li, Mg, Mn, Hg, Mo, Ni, P04, K, Se, SiO2, Ag, Na, Sr, Te, TI, Th, Sn, Ti, U, V, Zn, Zr.

Adrian Brown Consultants, Inc.
