This report includes data collected
throughout the year for surface and ground water monitoring stations. All stations were
monitored in accordance with the approved monitoring plan.
In response to the DRMS review of the 2007 AHR, the following report modifications have
been made:
1. Page 14: The requirement that Pond 7 water be tested for suspended solids
prior to discharge has been noted.
2. The reference to "two mine sites" has been deleted.
3. Surface elevations for NEW-2, NEW-3 and NEW-4 were adjusted to match
with elevations used by CF&I in surveying and mapping the underground
workings of the New Elk mine. Permit Map 22 - Mine Progress shows the
underground workings and coal contours. Elevations on MAP 22 are based
on the CFI coordinate grid and tie to the surface elevations given on Table
1.2-3 for NEW-2, NEW-3, and 4. The USGS sea level equivalent is 100.73
feet lower than CF&I. USGS elevations are shown on all New Elk permit
surface maps (e.g. Maps 11, 12, 13, & 14).
4. Page 16 reports that no pond discharge was noted during 2008.
