• Grace - Greenwood Mine f (; I t I
The Grace Greenwood Mine (5TL2073) is located in Section 19 on a southwest facing slope of
Gold 1-1111. The standing structures at the site include a headframe and hoist house. The
archaeological surveys performed by Paragon Archaeological Consultants included this area.
The headframe measures K' x S' and stands approximately 50' tall. A four-post style frame
constructed with diagonal back braces on its east side was used with a sheave wheel centered on
top. It is constructed of steel pipe and accommodates an automatic-dumping- skip. It has an
attached ore bin made of welded sheet metal. Based on the construction materials, the
headframe appears to have been erected during or after the 1930s.
The hoist house appears to represent a secondary or later hoist house and is located east of the
original hoist house foundation and approximately 75' east of the mine shaft. The shed style
hoist house measures 20' x 20' x 8' and is constructed of cinder blocks and comigated metal
roofing with a poured concrete floor. The building contains foundations for a single drum hoist
and an upright compres"or.
The site may be impacted by the proposed Squaw Gulch Overburden Storage Area Extension
associated with the MLE project.
•
000 & k ( io
The Deadwood headframe (or gallows frame) was previously relocated from its original location
in the Altman area, the Deadwood Mine site 5TL283, (within the East Cresson feline area) to its
current location on a reclaimed CChv overburden storage area overlooking the town of Cripple
Creek. The metal structure appears to be a good candidate for relocation if determined
appropriate by CCRV.
Deadwood Headframe
