• 10.3 VLF
10.3.1 Leak Detection System Monitoring
The LDSs under both the ore liner system and the PSSA liner system to be
installed as part of the MLE will be equipped with trenches that lead to sumps
into which intercepted water drains is retained for monitoring. These LDSs are
described in Section 6.2 of this Project Description and in Appendix 8, Volumes
V and VI of this document. Small pumps are inserted in the lined sumps to sample
and remove, as necessary, any fluid which may be present. Any fluid removed is
directed into the VLF. The fluid is tested for pH and CNWAD on a weekly basis.
10.3.2 High Volume Solution Collection System Level Monitoring
Water levels in the existing HVSCS areas are monitored at least weekly. The
pressure transducers associated with the PSSA pumps are used to monitor the
water levels in the HVSCS. Water levels in the new HVSCS added as part of
Phase 5 will be monitored at least weekly.
10.3.3 Low Volume Solution Collection System Monitoring
Water levels in the existing LVSCS are monitored at least weekly. Water levels in
. the Phase 5 LVSCS and existing will be monitored on a weekly basis.
10.3.4 Underdrain Monitoring
The water issuing from the underdrain pipes is monitored at least weekly for pH
and CNWAD. The new underdrains included as part of Phase 5 will be added to this
weekly monitoring.
10.3.5 Pregnant Solution Storage Areas
The VLF PSSAs are managed and monitored daily to assure appropriate solution
levels and the same monitoring will occur with the Phase 5 PSSA.
10.3.6 External Storage Pond Monitoring
The ESP leak detection collection and recovery system ("LDCRS") will be
monitored, as approved under Amendment No. 8, for water levels at least weekly
if process solution is introduced to the ESP. The impoundment areas of this pond
also will be monitored on a weekly basis for water levels. Samples will be
periodically collected for analysis of pH and CNWAD concentrations. No change
to this monitoring is proposed under the MLE.
•
Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mining Company
Cresson Project Mine Life Extension
10-4
