• 13.0 ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION PLAN/EMERGENCY RESPONSE
PLAN
13.1 Introduction
The Cresson Project is a Designated Mining Operation ("DMO") by virtue of the use of
toxic or acid forming chemicals within the permit area in the extractive metallurgical
processing. The information contained in Appendix 1, Volume II of this document
provides a discussion of the potential for acid mine drainage to occur due to the mining or
reclamation activities and demonstrates that there is little or no potential for occurrence
during mining and reclamation. The EPP for the Cresson Project is contained within the
design, construction, and operating discussions in the preceding sections of this MLE
Project Description. References to the appropriate sections of the Project Description are
outlined below for each of the regulatory requirements for the EPP.
Environmental protection is a cornerstone of operations at the Cresson Project. The
facility has an Environmental Management System and is independently certified under
the ISO 14000 standards. Furthermore, the operation has been certified under the
voluntary International Cyanide Management Institute through a site audit that occurred
• in June of 2007. A copy of the International Cyanide Management Code Audit report is
included as Appendix 13, Volume VII.
CC&V has also been recognized multiple times for its environmental leadership. Table
13-1 provides a listing of some of the recent accomplishments of CC&V and awards
made to CC&V.
Table 13-1 Awards fnr Environmental i,eadershin
Year Award
2007 MLRB Hard Rock Reclamation Award - Voluntary Reclamation of the
Independence Mill Tailings
Colorado Mining Association ("CMA") and State of Colorado Pollution Prevention
Program Senior Participant with Special Recognition.

2006 CMA and State of Colorado Pollution Prevention Program Senior Participant with
Special Recognition.
Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment Bronze Environmental
Achievement Award in the department's Environmental Leadership Program.

2005 MLRB, Hardrock Reclamation Award-Voluntary Reclamation of Portland Facili
CMA and State of Colorado Pollution Prevention Program Senior Participant with
Special Recognition.
•
Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mining Company
Cresson Project Mine Life Extension
13-1
