• 11.3.4 Monitoring/Erosion Control
CC&V will monitor the revegetation areas to evaluate the need for additional
seeding or fertilization. The reclamation areas also will be observed for evidence
of any persistent erosion or gullies. Corrective measures will be taken, as
appropriate, to address reclamation areas warranting additional work.
11.4 Mine Life Extension Reclamation
This section addresses the reclamation specific to the various mine components of the
MLE. The reclamation and closure measures approved under previous permit approvals
as well as planned reclamation under the MLE serve as the basis for the plan presented in
the following subsections.
11.4.1 Mine Areas
Reclamation of the surface mines that are not backfilled will involve
redistributing growth medium in the accessible bottoms of the mine areas to a
depth of approximately six inches or less depending on availability of material.
Areas receiving growth medium will receive the full compliment of revegetation
activities (i.e., fertilizer, seeding), as appropriate. Upon cessation of mining,
• reclamation of mine areas will be completed within an approximately three-year
period. This discussion addresses only those portions of the mine areas which will
not be backfilled (south areas of Main Cresson and Globe Hill area of North
Cresson). Backfilled mine areas are discussed below in Section 11.4.2 below.
Upon completion of mining and any associated revegetation, a six-foot high fence
will be installed around the crest of those portions of the mines where high walls
are greater than approximately 50 feet. The fence will be placed to control access
to the highwall lip. Signs will be placed along the fencing to warn of the hazard of
the highwall as appropriate.
Wildlife ingress and egress will be available into and out of the mines along the
final reclaimed haul road routes. The in-mine roads will provide wildlife routes
within the boundaries of the surface mined areas. Mine benches also will act to
catch rocks, and over time become at least partially covered and form talus slopes.
As a result, no revegetation of mine benches or walls is planned (see Figure F-1).
As demonstrated to date by CC&V's operations, there is no evidence that water
• will be impounded in the mine areas upon completion of mining.
