• 11.0 RECLAMATION AND CLOSURE
The objectives, criteria, and procedures of the reclamation and closure plan for the
Cresson Project have been previously approved through the Amendment No. 8 review
process. Procedures proposed as part of the MLE build upon those previously approved
practices proven to be successful at the site.
The planning and design of the features addressed in the MLE were completed with
reclamation in mind and incorporate concurrent reclamation to the extent possible. As
such, certain elements of reclamation have been discussed in previous sections. Section
11 consolidates and summarizes those discussions.
The analyses of geotechnical stability, as well as the designs for surface water controls
that affect reclamation, are presented in preceding sections of this Project Description.
11.1 Objectives
The objectives of the reclamation and closure plan are to stabilize disturbed areas and re-
establish the pre-mining land uses of wildlife habitat and livestock grazing. These
. objectives will be achieved through the implementation of the reclamation and closure
practices described in this section, and the appropriate use of other technologies that may
become available during operations.
The District is, by virtue of the mineral values that occur there, zoned for mining
operations followed by suitable reclamation of the area. Teller County recognizes the
past, present, and future role of mining in its planning processes and has formally adopted
the Cripple Creek Mining Overlay District (CCMOD) as part of its land use planning
process.
The recognized natural character of the lands is that of historic mining with present and
future responsible mineral mining and beneficiation. Future mining will occur and should
be part of any post-mining land use designations.
Upon completion of reclamation and closure of the project, the majority of the affected
area will be returned to livestock grazing and wildlife habitat. Representative and
significant historic resources will be enhanced in the District through, where feasible,
relocating important historical artifacts to areas accessible to the public and establishing
interpretative guidance on both the historic and recent operations.
• Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mining Company
Cresson Project Mine Life Extension
11-1
