• 8.4 Power Supply
Electrical power to all of the mine area is supplied by Aquila. Aquila has furnished power
lines to its substation located near the crusher facility. A new substation, constructed,
owned, and maintained by Aquila, will be constructed just south of Arequa Gulch and
across Highway 67 as shown on Drawing C-3. The existing substation then will be closed
and removed by Aquila. The new substation will supply power to the local area (e.g.,
Cripple Creek, Victor, Goldfield, etc) as well as CC&V's operations. The anticipated
location of powerlines is shown on Drawing C-3. Note that actual locations may vary
from those shown due to site specific conditions and field constraints during construction.
Since the startup of the Cresson Project, backup or "standby" diesel-powered generators
have powered the pump systems at the VLF during the few short line power outages. This
back-up system has worked effectively and adequate back-up power will be available
through a total of 6 (up from 3) back-up diesel generators for the extended activities of
the MLE. In effect, this reduces the possibility that there would be the 12-hour draindown
period used in the design of the PSSAs.
8.5 Water Supply
• Currently, fresh water for on-site use is purchased from various sources based on
contractual arrangement and delivered primarily from the City of Victor's system. Water
is pumped from the City of Victor's Altman Pump Station (located on Beaver Creek) and
supplied to the Cresson Project, or by gravity from a surface reservoir system located
further upstream. The water supplied is untreated (chlorination is used when supplied for
domestic purposes in the Victor public water supply system). A copy of the agreement
with the City of Victor is included as Appendix 9 of this document. CC&V has a back-up
water supply via an agreement with the City of Colorado Springs. A copy of that
agreement also is included in Appendix 2. Supplies for domestic use (i.e., drinking) on
site are derived from commercially-provided bottled water.
Water is used in the ore beneficiation circuit, for suppression of fugitive dust, drilling,
laboratory, sanitary facilities, and for various miscellaneous associated uses such as
vehicle washing and applying hydromulch for revegetation. The primary use of water is
in the VLF facilities. Section 6.0 contains a discussion of water use on the VLF as well as
a water balance for the VLF.
L
Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mining Company
Cresson Project Mine Life Extension
8-2
