• pattern to maintain a permeable layer leading to the PSSA. The HVSCS is
discussed in Section 6.2.4 below.
The SLF will come from a clay borrow area that is located primarily in the
location of the proposed ECOSA footprint. After vegetation clearing and growth
medium removal and prior to the use of this area for overburden storage, clay will
be removed for use as the SLF.. The location of the clay borrow area is shown on
Drawing C-4 in Exhibit C, Volume I.
The geomembrane liner system in use on the existing VLF and as proposed for
the Phase 5 area has been load tested for the increased leach facility maximum
depth of approximately 800 feet. The tests indicate that the existing and future
liner systems will withstand the pressure of the additional depth and will not
puncture or tear. This information is discussed in detail in Appendix 8.
6.2.3 PSSA Liner System
Where the Phase 5 ore overlaps onto the existing VLF, some pregnant solutions
will report to the Phases I and II PSSAs. Otherwise, pregnant solutions for the
• Phase 5 area will report to the Phase 5 PSSA. The Phase 5 PSSA is designed to
simultaneously contain the total of the anticipated operating solution volume plus
10 million gallons additional storage; a 12-hour draindown that would occur if
there was no pumping of solution from the PSSA; the precipitation from a 100-
year, 24-hour storm event; the monthly mean precipitation levels using historic
data at a 95 percent confidence level; and solution retained in the field capacity of
the ore contained within the PSSA. The Phase 5 PSSA also is designed with a
minimum five feet of freeboard above the level required to hold all of these
amounts.
The Phase 5 VLF PSSA will be constructed on native ground and compacted fill
and ore, and is located along the eastern edge of Phase IV. The western edge of
the PSSA will be founded on the regraded and compacted Phase IV ore slope. The
eastern edge of the PSSA will be founded on compacted fill overlying either
native ground (Squaw Mountain) or the regraded AGOSA. The PSSA
embankment and termination berms will be constructed from compacted fill. A
complete discussion of the PSSA can be found in Appendix 8.
Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mining Company
Cresson Project Mine Life Extension
6-3
