•
Growth medium will be used to create visual and acoustic barriers at the permit
boundary adjacent to the Schist Island portion of the North Cresson Mine area and
the Phase 5 VLF extension similar to those completed for development of the
ECME area of the East Cresson Mine and South Cresson portion of the Main
Cresson Mine area under Amendment No. 8. The visual and acoustic barrier will
be constructed at a height not to exceed approximately 30 feet or as needed and
will lie along the permit boundary as shown on Drawing C-4b. This soil will then
be used for final reclamation once the mining and overburden placement is
complete in the North Cresson Mine Area and rinsing completed on the VLF.
Growth medium will be stockpiled to depths and slopes appropriate for 1) access
for placement and removal, 2) erosional stability, and 3) minimization of the
footprint to limit additional disturbed area. Growth medium stockpiles, when in
place for more than one year, with no further disturbance planned, will be seeded
with the same or a similar seed mix approved by OMLR for use in revegetation at
the time (see Section 11.3.3). The seed mix may emphasize annuals if the
stockpile is anticipated to be moved within approximately two years.
• If necessary erosion control structures, run-on diversion ditches or equivalent
structures designed for the 10-year, 24-hour precipitation event will be
constructed upgradient of growth medium stockpiles for protection. A more
complete discussion of runoff and sediment control is contained in Section 9.0 of
this Project Description.
5.4.3 Mining Areas, Operations and Equipment
The MLE includes construction of Phase 5 of the VLF, the extension of the
SGOSA Extension, and the addition of the ECOSA. An additional approximate
110 tons of ore and 250 tons of overburden will be mined as part of the MLE.
Mining and backfilling will continue in the previously approved areas,
predominantly in the Main Cresson Mine area, North Cresson Mine area, and East
Cresson Mine area. Each mine area is shown on Drawing C-4 to the planned
depth. Generalized cross sections of the mine areas are included as Drawing C-6
which shows the depths of mining and the extent of backfilling.
Mining will continue to utilize conventional surface mining excavation methods
as they presently occur. The overburden and ore will be mined using conventional
• Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mining Company
Cresson Project Mine Life Extension
5-8
