• this MLE. As shown on Drawing C-4a, the MLE Project is primarily an adjustment of the
mining plan approved under Amendment No. 8 to incorporate modified and new mining
and overburden storage areas within the current approved Amendment No. 8 affected
areas. The MLE extends mining activities as part of the Cresson Project for an additional
four years, through approximately 2016, with the final reclamation of the facilities
completed by about 2018, with the exception of the VLF and ADR processing facilities.
Under the MLE, an additional 110 million tons of ore and 250 million tons of overburden
will be mined as part of the Cresson Project. Mining will be extended slightly in two
perimeter areas of the existing Main Cresson Mine. The East Cresson Mine area will
expand north into an area that will be referred to as the WHEX. The North Cresson Mine
area will expand the currently approved Schist Island area of the project and add a new
area to the north in the historic Globe Hill Mine. Processing of the gold ore will occur
through placement of additional ore on the existing VLF (Phases I through IV) and upon
a newly constructed Phase 5 of the VLF. Phase 5 of the VLF will tie directly into the
existing Phase IV of the VLF. Overburden resulting from mining in these extension areas
will be placed into portions of the existing Main Cresson Mine, East Cresson Mine, and
North Cresson Mine as mine backfill or placed for storage in the Squaw Gulch
Overburden Storage Area Extension ("SGOSA Extension".) or in the proposed new
ECOSA. The new ECOSA will provide storage for approximately up to 66 million tons
and the SGOSA Extension will provide an additional up to 50 million tons of storage.
The Coblentz geology building and the existing crusher maintenance building will be
demolished and these facilities will be reconstructed in new locations as part of the MLE
(see Drawing C-4).
Mining operations in the East Cresson will require closing Teller County Road 83 and
realignment and upgrading of County Road 82. CC&V will work with Teller County on
the county road closings and realignment. The Highway 67 and County Road 821
interchange will be upgraded with turn lanes and acceleration lanes, to accommodate
rerouting some deliveries that previously used the Carlton Security access and will now
be directed through the Ironclad Security access. CC&V will work with CDOT and Teller
County to facilitate these improvements, which will be addressed outside of the OMLR
MLE permit application process.
This MLE will be incorporated into the Cresson operations once approved.
Environmental protection measures are incorporated with the descriptions of each activity
or component. Water management and sediment controls are further addressed in Section
• 9.0.
Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mining Company
Cresson Project Mine Life Extension
5-2
