Marr Mine and Loadout April 15, 2009
2008 Reclamation Report
These areas were seeded in 2000 by inter-seeding the permanent seed mix (Table 67A) into
the standing mulch. The application rate was at the prescribed rate for both grasses (11.5
pounds per acre) and shrubs and forbs (5.75 pounds per acres).
5.0 NOXIOUS WEED CONTROL
All areas were inspected and weed control spraying completed in 2006. Spraying for thistle was
conducted in the same areas of concern monitored in recent years as listed below. The
chemicals used include Milestone (Aminophyralid) and 2-4-D to control occurrences of thistle
(primarily Canadian and scotch thistle).
Mine Area
• Bottom of the 720 Pit and Pit 1 reclaimed areas
• The ridge on the west side of the 720 Pit
• The margins of the mine shop area
• Along the main access road to Loadout Area
• Along the former railroad right-of-way
• The vicinity of the shop building
• Pond Embankment
6.0 DRAINAGE AND SEDIMENT CONTROL
Kerr conducts regular routine inspection and maintenance for all ponds, ditches and other
drainage and sediment control structures. The minor disturbance associated with routine
maintenance and repair of drainages and terraces in 1999 and the 4 areas of rilling and gullying
required minor repair, clean-out, anal inter-seeding during 2003. There were no repairs or
maintenance activities required in 2004. Repair or maintenance activities associated with the
drainage and sediment control structures in 2005 included new rock dams and contour furrow
work. During 2006, the entrance road was bladed from the shop area to the main entrance gate
and the road ditch was maintained where needed. Additional contour furrows were installed on
the east facing slope directly west of the shop facilities to control rill forming and run off on the
slope. The new furrows were wheel compacted and hand inter-seeded with the approved
permanent seed mix.
As part of Kerr's regular site maintenance activities, surface water control structures were
inspected. Any concerns noted by the Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety (DRMS), in
their regular site inspection reports were considered. Based on inspection, the surface water
control structures were found to be generally in good condition. The repairs or maintenance
activities completed in 2008 consisted of completing the temporary repair to the Pond "D" Stand
Pipe that had previously leaked (April '08) around the base of the Stand Pipe. During October,
the base of the pipe was excavated & cleaned, a form was installed and concert was mixed &
poured around the base of the pipe up to the elevation of the horizontal drain pipe. The pipe
base & concrete was backfilled and the rip-rap was replaced.
Pond A was reported leaking and the local contractor, Sessions, was called in (April '08) and
repaired the base of the leaking standpipe. The base was backfilled and the rip rap was
replaced. No damage occurred to the embankments or structures of either Pond A or Pond D.
4
