Mount Royale Ventures, LLC
9145 Sunshine Canyon Dr.
Boulder, CO 80302
Telephone: 720 565-3448
Fax: 720 565-3497
December 4, 2007
Ms. Valois Shea
EPA Region 8, 8P-W-GW
1595 Wynkoop Street
Denver, Colorado 80202-1129
Dear Ms. Shea,
Mount Royale Ventures, LLC (MRV) - the operators of the Cash & Who Do
Mines and Gold Hill Mill - pursuant to the Code of Federal Regulations Part 146 hereby
submit the following information in application for an Underground Injection Control
Permit for a Class V well (CFR146.5(e)(8)).
Introduction
MRV operates the Cash & Who Do Mines (CO-DRMS Permit #M1983-141). Ores
produced from these mines are processed in MRV's Gold Hill Mill (CO-DRMS Permit
#M1994-117). As part of the mining process, MRV plans to return the mill tailings to the
underground workings as a sand or cemented sand backfill.
Geology
The area of the proposed well is entirely underlain by a batholith of Boulder Creek
Granite. This granite "ranges from a very coarse grained mottled pink and black biotite
granite ...to a medium grained quartz monzonite gneiss"'. Strong northwesterly faults
known as breccia reefs exist with lesser fissure veins providing the orebodies for mining.
The veins range from a few inches in width to several feet, with only a foot or less of
altered granite adjoining. These veins typically strike N30°E-N60°E and dip from
vertical to 60° both NW and SE. Mineralization includes a wide range of tellurides, some
sulfides, some carbonates, quartz (both bold and horn varieties) with massive silica
flooding. Alteration of the host rock is cerrusitic.
Iniectate
The proposed injectate is comprised of the gangue minerals remaining after beneficiation
by gravity and flotation methods, from the ores produced from the receiving "well"
location. These ores are gold and silver telluride ores typical of the well-known Gold
Hill mining district. Chemical analysis of the ore, the tailings and the water associated
with the tailings are provided. MRV would like the option of backfilling with and
without a cement or pozzolanic additive.
' Lovering, T., Goddard, E.N., 1950.
