EPA - UIC - V- Application.doc 3/5/2009
5 of 6
No impact is expected upon these drinking water wells pursuant to the permeability
and flow calculations provided by Adrian Brown. Water decanted from the injectate
will flow towards the mine workings and mine well. This water will be returned to
the Gold Hill Mill via pumping, eliminating the ability of this water to transport
beyond the 756' of drawdown cone influence calculated by Mr. Brown.
? Will injectate meet current drinking water standards? If not, what exceedences
are expected? For solid material, provide TCLP test* data if available.
Injectate water meets current drinking water standards, with the exception of solid
content. Please see attached "Description and Chemical Analysis of Proposed
Injectate" by MRV.
? Describe effect of injectate on groundwater. (Describe path drainage will flow
from injection point, through the subsurface (fractures, mine workings) to the any
surface water features or aquifers.
As indicated above under Injectate, the injectate will have minimal to no effect on
groundwater. Injectate is of superior quality water than the groundwater in the area.
Groundwater flow is positive towards the mine workings. The fracture flow is
estimated to be on the order of 10-7 cm/s. Please see "Cash Mine Permit Revision
Hydrogeology", "Cash Mine Borehole Non-Tributary Determination Support
Information", "Cash Mine Comprehensive Water Monitoring Plan" by Adrian
Brown, P.E. attached.
? If applicable, a specific closure plan for the removal, closure, or plugging of the
injection system, including an estimate of closing costs. If closure is not
anticipated, describe long-term plan for system.
The injection system will consist of a pipe or hose into the mine workings. This pipe
will be removed upon mine closure. The mine will be reclaimed according to the
conditions of the Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety (DRMS)
Permit #M1983=141. The mine closure consists of one (1) hydraulic seal at the third
level, as well as DRMS approved security closures on all other accesses. Currently,
the mining operation is bonded at $176,000 for closure and final reclamation. Please
see the attached correspondence with the DRMS regarding bonding
