5.
6.
7.
basement while I made phone calls to Tri County Health
Department, Colorado Division of Water Resources, Central
Colorado Water Conservancy District, and Colorado Division of
Reclamation Mining & Safety. The Central Colorado Water
Conservancy District granted me permission to pump my irrigation
wells to ditch flowing back to the South Platte River in attempt to
reduce ground water static levels. Turned on 2 irrigation well @
approximately 100 gpm each. Now we are pumping approximately
250 gpm total to ditch. We had timed the recovery rate of the sump
pit, before water flowed over top of floor to be 42 seconds before
irrigations were turned on and 4 minutes after turning on irrigation
wells. Thus giving us 4 total minutes to act in event of lost electricity
or pump failure before water starts overflowing basement floor. 3
man crew (8:00am - 7:30pm - Scott,.Brent & Kirk).
Tuesday March 24, 2009, Continue pumping, monitoring, and
excavating sump pit for pit basin install.
Note: Furnace fan runs but no heat. Using oven & fan to stay warm.
Have a call into furnace repair people. Haven't heard back yet. Will
continue to pump approximately 250 gpm into ditch until water
levels subside or building floats away.
After further investigation, I believe that the ground water is being
backed up due to inappropriate materials used in backfill of a gravel
pit located at 12021 Old Brighton Road. Said pit has been operated
by Asphalt Specialties Company under permit #M-83-176 and
named Speer Mining Resource Pit.
Thank you for your attention to this matter !!!
Sincerely,
Kirk Kirby
