3/24/2009
Colorado Division of Reclamation Mining & Safety
1313 Sherman Street-, Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
Atten: David Bird
Mr. Bird,
Here is the detail & sequence of events concerning ground water and
the flooding of my basement.
1. Friday March 20, 2009 @ approximately 1.0:00pm - Heard strange
sound coming from my new (within 6 months) furnace once fan
turned on.
2. Saturday March 21, 2009 @ approximately 9:00am - Heard the
same strange sound from furnace & investigated and found 8" of
water in my basement (submerging 6" of furnace under water).
Spent 13 hours pumping, vacuuming, & evaluating where water
might be coming from. Being a licensed pump installer and familiar
with issues common to leaks found in trench piping, I originally
thought that 1 had leak in trench piping from water well service to
home but found that all trench piping to be A-OK. Measured ground
water in wells @ 44"-48". Started sump pit excavation in order to
lower sump pump below floor level. 2 man crew (Brent & Kirk @ 8
hours), 3 man crew (Brent, Kirk, & Levi 5 hours). 9:00am -
10:00pm. Pumped continuously in excess of 50 gpm thru the night.
3. Sunday March 22, 2009 - Continued pumping and monitoring water
levels in addition to installing small jet pump in monitoring hole next
to house (a 16.5 gpm. 2 man crew (Kirk & Brent = 5 hours thru the
day). Now 2 pumps continuous pumping.
4.
