• composed of twolobe speedwell (Pocilla biloba) at 5.0 percent. introduced annual grasses
contributed 7.6 percent all-hit cover predominantly composed of Japanese brome (Bromus
japonicus) and cheatgrass (Anisantha tectorum) with 4.4 and 3.0 percent respectively. Introduced
perennial forbs and introduced perennial cool season grasses contributed 6.0 and 2.9 percent
respectively. Although not comprising much cover, houndstongue (Cynoglossum officinale) and
Canada thistle (Breea arvensis) were present with 40% and 60% frequency respectively.
?J
Total average vegetation cover, for first hits, was 39.9 percent. Total average vegetation cover,
for all hits, was 41.7%. Standing dead, litter, bare soil, and rock each had 0.3, 29.8, 28.4, and 1.7
percent cover, respectively. Average species density was 28.2 species per 100 sq.m.
Production
(Table 2)
Total average production was 1561.3 Ibs per acre. Of this, 585.3 pounds were native perennial
cool season grasses and 447.9 pounds were introduced perennial forbs. Introduced perennial
cool season grasses and introduced annual and biennial forbs contributed 185.6 and 171.3
pounds per acre respectively. Introduced annual grasses produced 108.8 pounds with native
perennial forbs and native annual and biennial forbs were present at less than 100 pounds per
acre each.
Woody Plant Density
(Table 3)
Total average woody plant density in the 2004 Reclaimed Area was 611.1 stems per acre and
composed entirely of native shrubs. The predominant species was big sagebrush (Seriphidium
tridentatum) with 536 stems per acre. Mountain snowberry (Symphoricarpos rotundifolius)
contributed 59 stems per acre to the total. Rubber rabbitbrush (Chrysothamnus nauseosus) and
chokecherry (Padus virginiana ssp. melanocarpa) were also present, each with densities of fewer
than 15 stems per acre.
2006 RECLAIMED AREA
(Photographs 17-26 in Appendix 5)
Cover
(Table 4)
Introduced annual and biennial forbs were the predominant lifeform observed in the 2006
Reclaimed Area, contributing 26.3 percent all-hit vegetation cover. Of this, the majority (9.9
• percent) was twolobe speedwell with Jim Hill mustard (Sisymbrium altissimum), pennycress
(Thlaspi arvense), and devil's shoestrings (Polygonum arenastrum) contributing 5.3, 5.1 and 4.5
7
