• Production
(Table 6)
Total average production was 2185.9 Ibs per acre. Native perennial cool season grasses
contributed the most with an average production of 938.6 Ibs per acre (approximately 43%).
Introduced perennial forbs, Introduced annual and biennial forbs, native perennial forbs,
introduced perennial cool season grasses, introduced annual grasses and native perennial forbs
contributed moderate amounts (938.6, 810.1, 203.4, 117.8, 92.8, 19.6, and 7.1 Ibs per acre,
respectively).
Woody Plant Density
(Table 7)
Total average density of woody plants was 28.3 stems per acre, composed entirely of native
shrubs. Mountain snowberry, big sagebrush, and Saskatoon serviceberry (Amelanchier alnifolia)
were the three species present contributing 17.4, 5.7 and 5.7 stems per acre, respectively.
2006 RECLAIMED AREA
(Photographs 16-24)
is Cover
(Table 8)
Introduced annual and biennial forbs were the predominant lifeform observed in the 2006
Reclaimed Area, contributing 26.1 percent all-hit cover. Of this, Jim Hill mustard and Russian
thistle (Salsola australis) contributed 12.2 and 4.7 percent all-hit cover, respectively. Native
perennial cool season grasses were the second most encountered lifeform with 4.6 percent all-hit
cover. Within this group, slender wheatgrass and mountain brome were most common, having
1.8 and 1.2 percent all-hit cover, respectively. Introduced annual grasses (3.8 percent all-hit
cover) were the third most common lifeform with cheatgrass (Anisantha tectorum) comprising the
majority with 1.4 percent all-hit cover.
Total average vegetation cover, for first hits, was 39.5 percent. Total average vegetation cover,
for all hits, was 40.6 percent. Standing dead, litter, bare soil, and rock each had 1.3, 26.5, 31.2,
and 1.5 percent cover, respectively (first hits). Average species density was 25.1 species per 100
sq.m.
•
11
