I~
3.4.4 Mulching
All seeded areas will be mulched with certified, weed free grass hay or straw.

Approximately 2 tons of mulch will be used on each acre seeded. The mulch will be
anchored using a tackifier, crimping or a tackifier mixed with wood or wood/paper fiber.
The tackifier will be applied in accordance with manufacturer's specifications with
consideration of the type and quality of mulch applied, slope, soil conditions and other
applicable factors. Use of tackifier for mulch anchoring will be used on extensively
roughened areas. Where drill seeding can be conducted, mulch will be anchored by
crimping.
3.4.5 Planting Times
Seeding and planting of disturbed areas will be conducted during the first normal
period of favorable planting conditions following final preparation for seeding. Seeding
will normally be done in the fall from mid October through mid December. Spring
seeding will be done during March or April. Summer seeding will be done from mid July
through August.
3.4.6 Irrigation and Fertilization
3-14
No irrigation will be used on the reclaimed areas. Upon reclamation, an analysis
I ~
of the soils will be made to determine the fertilization requirements of the areas
involved. If the analysis shows that the soil is deficient in phosphorus, it will be added
to the soil prior to seeding. Other elements will be added the year after seeding.
Unneeded fertilization will be avoided. Native plants have low potential response to
fertilizer and undesirable weed competition is likely.
M`Clane
Volume 1
(Rev S/04)
