• The T1 terrace along the Colorado River is considered to
be marginally subirrigated as evidenced by enhanced alfalfa
production on this landform. Adjacent flood irrigated alfalfa
fields had obviously greater production. Most of the T1
terrace is flood irrigated.
No other vegetative communities were found on higher
terraces of the Colorado River that suggest subirrigation is
occurring. A very large portion of the valley between the
Government Highline Canal and the Orchard Mesa Ditch on either
side of the river is flood irrigated, further indicating that
subirrigation is not occurring to agricultural crops on the
valley floor.
( • Summary of Alluvial Valley Floor Characteristics. The
' criteria for making an AVF determination are prescribed in the
Colorado Regulations (2.06.8(3)). The information necessary for
making an AVF determination for the Colorado River Valley has
been conveyed in previous parts of this report.
In summary, Maps 1 and 2 delineate all areas that may be
considered part of the Colorado River terrace lands that have a
history of flood irrigation land use or the potential for such
use. The presence of irrigated agricultural lands on the
Colorado River Valley indicate the general suitability of soils,
water quality, and water quantity for such uses. It should also
be mentioned that the T1 terrace is considered marginally
subirrigated along the river.
U
9
