• subsurface soil and geologic wnditions of the site and, based on the conditions encountered, to provide rewm-
mendations pertaining to the geotechnical aspects of the site development as previously described. The
conclusions and recommendations included herein are based on an analysis of the data obtained from our field
explorations, laboratory testing progam, and on our experience with similar soil and geologic conditions in the
area.
This report provides site specific information for the re-construction the existing Pond 12, with particular
emphasis on reducing the water infiltration rates through the soil at the base and at the south embanlmrent of
Pond 12.
The scope of our geotechnical exploration consisted of a surface reconnaissance, subsurface exploration,
obtaining representative samples, laboratory testing, analysis of field and laboratory data, and a review of
geologic literature.
Specifically, the intent of this study is to:
• 1. Explore the subsurface conditions to the depth expected to be influenced by the proposed re-
construction.
2. Evaluate by laboratory and field tests the general engineering properties of the various strata which
could influence the pond re-construction.
3. Define the general geology of the site including likely geologic hazards which could have an effect on
the pond re-construction.
4. Develop geotechnical criteria for site gading and earthwork.
5. Identify potential construction difTicullies and provide recommendations concerning these problems.
FIELD EXPLORATION AND LABORATORY TESTING Afield evaluation was
performed on 6-9-97, and consisted of a site reconnaissance by our geotechnical personnel and the drilling of
3 exploration borings. 'These 3 exploration borings were drilled v•lthin the proposed pond embankment
reconstruction arcs near the locations indicated on the Boring Location Plan. The exploration borings were
located to obtain a reasonably good profile of the subsurface soil conditions. All exploration borings were drilled
•
2
