INTRODUCTION
The proposed Simmons Pit is located approximately 2 miles west of Mancos in Montezuma
County, Colorado. The site is bordered on the south by HWY 160; and agricultural land on the
East, North and West. The site is currently used as irrigated pasture as shown on Map C-1. All
maps are located in Appendix D. The surrounding landowners are shown on Map C-1 and the
mailing addresses of those landowners are listed in Exhibit R.
Topography of the site slopes gently down toward the west and is perched on an alluvial terrace.
Within the permit area, there will be 47.93 acres that are not disturbed and 46.07 acres that will
be disturbed. The resulting permit area will be 94.00 acres. The significant amount of
undisturbed land is used to have the permit area of the already approved County High Impact
Permit and the DRMS Permit equal.
The permittee for this site is Oldcastle SW Group, Inc., dba Four Corners Materials. Throughout
this application, the name has been shortened to Four Corners Materials or FCM.
The site will be reclaimed to a land use of irrigated pasture and rangeland. The topography of the
reclaimed land is shown on Map F.
The estimated production for the site is 120,000 tons per year. The gravel thickness is
approximately 8-20 feet and overburden is expected to vary between 0-14 feet.
Simmons Pit, March 2009 i-1
