Sergius,
I see no problems with your plan to sparge, berm, and sample the pond.
I will leave the berm up to you, but at this point, you may want to
first install a few bubblers, thereby establishing a sparge curtain that
should be able to remediate these low levels of BTEX (may be cheaper
than constructing the berm right off). Perhaps, you want to step it,
' installing the sparger(s) and sampling for a week or two, and if
concentrations stablize or go down, then perhaps the berm is not needed,
and if they are on the increase, install it then. But if you feel this
plume has greater potential for spreading, then installing the berm now
' would be conservative.
Just an FYI, I am also notifying Water Quality of the surface water
' impacts, letting them know that we (HMWMD) are handling the cleanup. If
they have any further concerns, I will let you know.

I copied you on my periodic Bayshore Remediation update e-mail a few
minutes
ago - here is some more information on our plans to mitigate the
impacts to
surface water. I consider this an emergency response and request your
okay
to proceed past set-up and testing the bubbler system.
We are fabricating an air-sparge (bubbler) to put in the impacted
gravel-pit
pond at the Bayshore remediation site. We hope to install and test it
tomorrow Tues 2-27 and would like your approval to begin full-time
