8.1 Soil Vapor Extraction Pilot Test Results
The SVE pilot testing was performed by attaching a reversible positive displacement
blower on the pilot test well head. A step test was performed with a vacuum that was
applied starting at 10" of Hg for 15 minutes and then increased to 15" of Hg. Selected
monitoring wells in the vicinity of the SVE pilot test well were monitored for vacuum. The
air flow and VOC generation was monitored from the effluent from the blower. The
results are included below.
SVF Taco Racii1fe of 14A11 of U'3A
Well ID Vacuum
(inches of water
column) Distance
(ft) Max PID
(ppm) Max Air Flow
(SCFM)
SVE-1 130 0 1,835 105
MWA R 3.0 20
MW-17 1.65 30
MW-6R 1.65 50
MW-2R 0.0 90
SVF Taco Raculfc of IRA" of Uon
Well ID Vacuum
(inches of water
column) Distance
(ft) Max PID
(ppm) Max Air Flow
(SCFM)
SVE-1 180 0 1,404 124
MW-1R 4.6 20
MW-17 3.1 30
MW-6R 3.0 50
MW-2R 0.0 90
Based on the results of the test, a substantial soil vacuum may be generated up to 50
feet from the pilot test well. Air flow (exceeding 100 SCFM) is optimal and relatively high
VOCs were generated during both steps of the test. The test was deemed successful
and the SVE pilot testing was stopped.
10
