The area to be added is contiguous to the existing permit area.
Location and Setting
The Chaparral Meadows Pit is a sand and gravel mine. The site is located in
Park County about 5.1 miles east of Hartsel. Except for a gravel county road and the
mining operation itself, all areas surrounding the site are vacant , undeveloped land.
Access
County Road 59 will be used to access the permit area. Thereafter, access
within the permit area will be located as necessary. As the operation expands
westward, an additional entrance may be created. If created, the additional access will
be similar the the existing one and consist of a cut in the fence for direct access to the
permit area. The Exhibit C map illustrates the current entrance and access road.
Soil Salvage
Prior to disturbing an area, topsoil will be first stripped and stockpiled for- use in
reclamation. The depth of the surface soil to be stripped will average about six inches.
Additional information regarding the site's soil resources is provided in Exhibit I - Soils
Information.
Stockpiling will generally occur near the perimeter of the area to be disturbed.
The Exhibit C map illustrates current and anticipate stockpile placement locations. As
a stabilization measure, soil stockpiled for longer than one year will be broadcast
seeded with a perennial grass species.
Natural of the Deposit
The material to be mined consists of relict alluvial sand and gravel deposits
-4-
