The survey was conducted within the terrace escarpment map unit. Terrace escarpments <br />occur as breaks or steep sided slopes adjacent to the channels of present or former <br />streams. This soil unit consists of alluvium of variable materials and is very shallow over <br />gravel and sand. These materials have a loamy sand or sandy loam surface layer. In <br />many areas this layer is 5 to 20 percent gravel. <br />SURVEY <br />Potential orchid habitat investigated included a meadow vegetation community within the <br />Reinoehl parcel and a wet meadow vegetation community and fringe vegetation along an <br />irrigation tailwater ditch on the Arends parcel. The survey was conducted by randomly <br />crisscrossing the potential orchid habitat along the meadow, wet meadow, and waters <br />edge of the ditch. <br />CONCLUSIONS <br />A pedestrian survey to identify the presence of Spiranthes diluvialis at the proposed <br />Arends, Reinoehl, and Archuleta site was conducted August 21, 2007 by Savage and <br />Savage staff. The survey was conducted in accordance with U.S. Fish and Wildlife <br />Survey guidelines and during the period of anthesis of the orchid.
