Appendix A - Vegetation Sampling for Phase III Bond Release
•
reference area is rejected. The Irrigated Pasture Reclaimed Area mean exceeds 90% of the AVF
Reference Area mean, and reclamation is statistically evaluated as successful.
Analysis of the same production data collected on the Rangeland Reclaimed and Reference Areas but
using a sample size of 90 produced the following result:
Step 1: SE S°` - 261.899 + (.9 * 3.159)2
- 90 90
SE,, =1.732
Step 2: d fs°` - 9.00
(8.468 + 0.0081)
89 89
df,°, = 94.50
•
The t-table value [one-tailed t-test value at the 90% confidence level (0. 1), df-?94] = 1.291.
13.22 - (0.9 * 4.0056)
Step 3: t =
1.732
t = 5.55
•
Since 5.55 > 1.291, the null hypothesis of the reclaimed area being less than or equal to 90% of the
reference area is rejected. The Rangeland Reclaimed Area mean exceeds 90% of the Rangeland
Reference Area mean, and reclamation is statistically evaluated as successful. Because both tests, using a
sample size of 15 and 90, resulted in rejection of the null hypothesis, the reclamation of the rangeland
area production can be considered successful in 2005.
Production - 2006
Determination of sample adequacy in the field was based on the "wet weights" of clipped vegetation and
verified based on "dry weights" (Table A-18). Sample adequacy, utilizing Equation 3, was not achieved
on any of the four sampling units after the collection of thirty, 0.5-square-meter quadrats. Determination
of revegetation success was then evaluated by comparing mean production between the reclaimed and
reference areas and by utilizing the reverse null hypthesis one-tailed west.
TABLE A-18. 0.5 SQUARE-METER PRODUCTION PLOTS SUMMARY OF
2006: SAMPLE ADEQUACY CALCULATIONS
2215 PoldenEagle PH3B0ND 2006 3-10-08.doc A-10
