Appendix A - Vegetation Sampling for Phase III Bond Release
u

•
Sample adequacy was not achieved on the Rangeland Reference Area or the Rangeland Reclaimed Area
in 2005 when utilizing the same methodology, or when each quadrat was counted as an individual sample.
Production sampling ceased on each rangeland area when the fifteenth transect was completed (90 total
quadrats collected). Evaluation of total herbaceous vegetation production for the purpose of success
determination is based on statistical tests comparing the mean dry weights of clipped vegetation on each
0.1 square meter quadrat after removing the excess biennial or annual cover.
TABLE A-12. 0.1 SQUARE-METER PRODUCTION PLOTS:
SUMMARY OF 2005 SAMPLE ADEQUACY CALCULATIONS

rea

Mean Weight
(grams)

Standard
Deviation
Actual
Sample
Size Computed
Adequate
Sample
Size
Wet Wei is
AVF Reference Area 52.53 5.96 15* 2.33
IP Reclaimed Area 48.62 9.27 15* 6.58
Rangeland Reference Area 8.75 4.21 15* 41.88
Raneland Reclaimed Area 33.77 28.59 15* 129.72
D Wei is
AVF Reference Area 22.67 2.35 15* 1.94
IP Reclaimed Area 20.46 2.95 15* 3.75
Rangeland Reference Area 4.01 1.73 15* 33.55
Rangeland Reclaimed Area 15.42 10.35 15* 81.42
* 15 transacts; each transect value determined by averaging the six 0.1 square-meter quadrats collected along each
TABLE A-13. Excess biennial forbs
(yellow sweet clover) were removed to reduce relative production of biennial and annual production to
10%, which is less than the 12% relative production of biennials and annuals on the Rangeland Reference
Area. After this undesirable component was removed from the Rangeland Reclaimed Area, the sample
mean for herbaceous production on the Rangeland Reclaimed Area (13.22 grams) represents more than
2215_GoldenEagle_PH3B0ND 2006 3-10-08.doe A-8
