All activities were conducted on affected land areas under the existing
permit. The maps attached as referenced in the attached individual reports, show the
activities conducted in 2008.
1.0 Primary Activities
Climax 2010 Project
In 2008, Climax Molybdenum initiated numerous construction activities in anticipation
of resuming production from the open pit in 2010. These construction activities were
combined under the title "Climax 2010 Project". These activities were approved by the
Division under Technical Revisions fourteen (TR-14) and fifteen (TR-15) and include the
following individual activities:
• Rehabilitation of the Tenmile Tunnel
• New Tailing Delivery Line (TDL)
• Upgrades to Robinson Lake Pump Station/Pipeline
• Construction of a new mill building and associated accessory buildings
• Open pit striping activities
• Topsoil stripping and starter berm construction on Tenmile Tailing Pond
On November 10, 2008 curtailment of construction activities were announced due to
unfavorable conditions in the metals market. The Climax 2010 Project activities are
being shut down in a controlled, planned manner and will be returned to care and
maintenance purposes until favorable market conditions in the molybdenum market allow
for resumption of construction. Rehabilitation of the Tenmile Tunnel will continue with
an expected completion date of May 15, 2009. Should the rehabilitation activities not be
100% complete, the project will resume after the spring runoff.
Completed Work:
The Division approved the following Environmental Protection Facility (EPFs) projects
during 2008:
• Storke Waste Water Pump Replacement.
• 3-Dam Pump Station and Pipeline and Sludge Densification Plant and
Pipeline.
