SENECA II-W MINE
2008 ANNUAL RECLAMATION REPORT
2008 DISTURBANCE AREA
Although no there were no additional acres disturbed during 2008, the Seneca II-W Mine area was reviewed
and revised (based on physical surveys and aerial photography) to accurately portray the categories of
activities: the final disturbance boundary has been updated to match the aerial photography; potential
permanent roads and ponds delineated, etc. The total disturbance is 1,381.9 acres. This acreage is reflected
on the CDRMS Annual Report Form and is discussed in the text of the following report. The attached 2008
Reclamation maps portray the physical disturbance boundaries but do not include or show the 96.6 acres
associated with the Tie-Across Haul Road.
BACKFILLING AND GRADING
There were a total of 6.1 acres backfilled and graded in 2008. These areas are shown on the attached 2008
Graded Areas map.
TOPSOIL AND SPOIL MONITORING
SCC is required by Permit C-82-057 to monitor the salvage, storage, and redistribution of topsoil and spoil
handling operations at the Seneca II-W Mine. Only 6.1 acres of backfilling/grading (topsoil stockpiles) and
0.9 acres of topsoil replacement were conducted during 2008, therefore no monitoring was conducted.
• • Topsoil Recovery Documentation
There was no additional topsoil recovered during 2008.
• 2008 Topsoil Replacement Thickness
There was 0.9 acres of topsoil replaced; therefore no topsoil thickness samples were collected in 2008.
• Soil Pit -Topsoil Fertility/ Spoil Suitability
No topsoil fertility or spoil suitability samples were collected in 2008.
• Topsoil Balance
SCC submitted a topsoil balance with permit Revision 04 (dated 9/04). The topsoil balance has not been
revised since Seneca II-W is reclaimed except for roads and facilities areas.
Topsoil Salvage and Storage. No topsoil was salvaged during 2008. The life-of-mine disturbance from
which topsoil was salvaged (1,381.9 acres) and the topsoil stockpile sites as of December 31, 2008 are shown
the 2008 Topsoil Replacement map.
The remaining stockpile volumes as of December 31, 2008 are listed in Table 08.1, Topsoil Stockpile
Volumes. As of the end of 2008, 75.5 acre-feet of topsoil remain stockpiled in the mining area and 73.1 acre-
feet of topsoil are stockpiled along the Tie-Across Haul Road.
• Topsoil Replacement. Topsoil was replaced on 0.9 acres of disturbed area during 2008. Therefore, the
total remaining mine disturbance area requiring topsoil (as of December 31, 2008) is 84.1 acres.
