Exhibit K - Climate Information
Climatic data for nearby areas with similar elevation and physiographic
characteristics are incomplete. Therefore, the mean annual temperature was derived
from a precipitation station operated at Hartsel (about five miles to the west of the site)
from 1911 to 1965. Mean annual temperature was obtained a station at Antero
Reservoir (about 10 miles to the west of the site) for the period of 1961 to 1994- Other
climatic data was obtained from Climates of the States, Colorado, by Joseph
Berry, U.S. Department of Commerce, Climatography of the United States, No. 60-5.
The winters are cold and dry and have extreme variations in temperature. The
summers are cool to warm. The seasonal temperature ranges from the mid 80'soF to a
low in the -40'sOF. The mean annual temperature is about 35.60F. The mean
minimum January temperature is about 50F., and the mean maximum temperature for
this month is about 360F. In July, the mean minimum temperature is about 44OF and
the mean maximum temperature is about 760F.
The mean annual precipitation is about 11 inches (10.71 in.). Approximately 80
percent of the annual precipitation falls between May 1st and September 30th.
Thunderstorms are common during the summer and may produce heavy rainfall in
short periods. Snow may occur at virtually any time during the year.
The frost-free period (daily minimum temperature higher than 320F is only
about 30 days in length; however, the growing season for native plants is mid-May
through September 30th, with the period of significant plant growth averaging about
141 days.
-23-
