Permit Renewal Application No. 2 (RN-2)
Dear Las Animas County Planning Department:
The Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety hereby issues notice, in accordance with Title 34, Article 33,
Section 118, Paragraph 3, of the Colorado Revised Statutes, that on February 22, 2008, an application to renew an
existing permit to conduct coal mining operations at the Lorencito Canyon Mine was considered complete for the
purposes of filing. All review and comment periods as provided in the Colorado Surface Mining Reclamation Act
and the Rules initiate from this date of filing.
Lorencito Coal Company, LLC proposes to continue Surface coal mining and/or reclamation operations on land
located approximately 3 miles West of Segundo on Hwy 12. The permit area is further described as follows:
Lands south of the Purgatorie River, lands east of Cow Canyon, lands north of the Puertecito Canyon, and lands west
of Little Jeff Canyon, covering approximately 3,142 acres.
The above-mentioned tracts of land are shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle map of Little Pine Canyon.
This is the second five-year permit renewal at this site. The mine is currently limited to reclamation operations only
and this status is not expected to change during this next five-year renewal period. Presently the disturbance area is
95% reclaimed.
A copy of the renewal application is available for public inspection at the Las Animas County Commissioners, 200
East First Street, Room 104, Trinidad, CO 81082. For additional information, to provide written comments, or
