Cattany <br />Division Director <br />Natural Resource Trustee <br />The Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety hereby issues notice, in accordance with Title 34, Article <br />33, Section 118, Paragraph 3, of the Colorado Revised Statutes, that on February 22, 2008, an application to <br />renew an existing permit to conduct coal mining operations at the Lorencito Canyon Mine was considered <br />complete for the purposes of filing. All review and comment periods as provided in the Colorado Surface <br />Mining Reclamation Act and the Rules initiate from this date of filing. <br />Lorencito Coal Company, LLC proposes to continue surface coal mining reclamation operations on land <br />located approximately 3 miles West of Segundo on Hwy 12. The permit area is further described as <br />follows: Lands south of the Purgatorie River, lands east of Cow Canyon, lands north of the Puertecito <br />Canyon, and lands west of Little Jeff Canyon, covering approximately 3,142 acres. The above-mentioned <br />tracts of land are shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle map of Little Pine Canyon. <br />This is the second five-year permit renewal at this site. The mine is currently limited to reclamation <br />operations only and this status is not expected to change during this next five-year renewal period. <br />Presently the disturbance area is 95% reclaimed. <br />No changes to the fish and wildlife plan, and the reclamation plan as it relates to fish and wildlife <br />considerations, including potential impacts to threatened or endangered species, are proposed. If you have <br />any questions or concerns we request that comments be submitted to the Division of Reclamation, Mining <br />and Safety at the above address by April 22, 2008. If no comments are received by this date, we will <br />proceed on the assumption that your agency has no concerns with or objections to the renewal of the <br />reclamation only permit. <br />Sincerely, <br />Kent A.
