Natural Resource Trustee <br />Colorado Springs, CO 80907-4233 <br />RE: Southfield Mine (Permit No. C-1981-014) <br />Permit Renewal Application No. 5 (RN-5) <br />Dear Mr. Prenzlow: <br />The Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety hereby issues notice, in accordance with Title 34, Article <br />33, Section 118, Paragraph 3, of the Colorado Revised Statutes, that on January 30, 2009, an application to <br />renew an existing permit to conduct coal mining operations at the Southfield Mine was considered complete <br />for the purposes of filing. All review and comment periods as provided in the Colorado Surface Mining <br />Reclamation Act and the Rules initiate from this date of filing. <br />Energy Fuels Coal, Inc. proposes to renew their mining and reclamation permit for an additional five years <br />on land located approximately 7 miles south of Florence, Colorado. All mining operations have ceased and <br />only maintenance and monitoring activities are occurring. No changes to the fish and wildlife plan are <br />proposed. The permit area is further described as follows: <br />Mine Area: <br />Portions of Sections 19, 30, and 31; Township 20S, Range 69N of the 6th P.M.; Sections 23, 24, 25, 26, and <br />36; Township 205, Range 70 W of the 6th P.M. Loadout: <br />Portions of Sections 17 and 18; Township 195, Range 69W of the 6th P.M. <br />The above-mentioned tracts of land are shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle map of Canon City and <br />Rockvale. <br />In order for us to comply with regulatory time frames, we request that comments <br />Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety at the above address by March 31, 2009 <br />received by this date, we will proceed on the assumption that your agency has <br />objections to the applicant's proposal. <br />Since ely, <br />Kent A.
