3.0 RESULTS
•
As indicated in Section 1.0, six major plant communities were identified within the proposed project
area. Floristic surveys of both the vegetation study area and corresponding reference areas resulted in
the identification of 50 species of grass or grass-like plants, 156 species of forbs, and 33 species of
shrubs, trees or cacti for a total of 239 taxa (see Table V1). None of these were determined to be rare,
threatened or endangered. Given the site-specific quantitative and qualitative investigations, detailed
descriptions for each identified major type (and sub-types) are presented in the following subsections, as
well as qualitative descriptions of the minor communities. The acreages occupied by each type / subtype
are indicated in the table below.
Study Area (& Reference Area) Acreages by Community Type

Vegetation Type of Total
Acres % Reference
Area Acres
Aspen 770.0 5.66% 68.7
Bottomland 603.4 4.43% 32.3
Wetlands 47.9
Ekotton land Stocktanks 5.5 C' 'J11
Subtypes Water, of the U.S. 2.1 O
Other Ve . The Aspen communities are located on high elevation, steep slopes and drainage bottoms that
generally have northeast to northwest aspects. As indicated on Table V1, a total of 63 plant species
were documented from this community type in the baseline study area and 41 taxa in the reference area.
No sensitive species were observed within this area, while the noxious weeds Canada thistle (Cirstum
arvense) and houndstongue (Cynoglossum officinale) were observed in the study area.
