Under this permit amendment, the ground water elevation in the West Pit will
continue to be maintained in the current condition long-term, with continuous transfer
of West Pit ground water to irrigation storage ponds and ultimately the Salazar Ranch
via an irrigation pipeline. The irrigation storage ponds will be located within the
West Pit footprint and have been designed to hold the volume of ground water
pumped during the period November through March each year. The irrigation ponds
will be empty by November each year to ensure adequate storage capacity for the
non-irrigation period.
The West Pit area currently has five ponds and a building that houses the water
treatment facility. Under this permit amendment, active water treatment of West Pit
ground water will cease and the water treatment system will be decommissioned. The
building housing the water treatment system will remain as a combined
workshop/office building for site personnel. Additional detail on the water
management system, including pond and pipeline corridor design, is provided in
Exhibit G.2.
E.3 Revised Tailings Disposal Area Reclamation
The 1989 Permit Amendment showed reclamation plans for the TDA. During
development of the TDA, drainages on the east and south were diverted to a channel
that skirts the southern boundary of the TDA. This South Diversion Channel was
designed to convey storm flows associated with the 100-year, 24-hour event. Upon
final reclamation, the plan called for breaching of the diversion channel at each of the
tributaries and routing of tributary flow across the reclaimed TDA surface, with
subsequent discharge through a spillway on the northwest corner of the TDA
embankment (Drawing 1 Tailings Impoundment Reclamation Plan; AM-01). This
final reclamation spillway was to be designed to safely pass storm flows associated
with the Probable Maximum Precipitation (PMP) event.
Under this Amendment, BMRI proposes to leave the South Diversion in place and
continue to route upland flows, up to the 100-year, 24-hour event in the existing
Battle Mountain Resources, Inc. 15
P.\Pmjects\212-Ncw nt(Senl.,i,)\S, Luis\Permit Amendment - WcA Pit Mem®emen W Report & PDFs\Te AP-,itAmendment v5c.dw December 2007
