III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection
and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a partial inspection conducted by Kent Gorham of the Colorado Division of
Reclamation, Mining, and Safety (Division). This mine is in permanent cessation and
reclamation of most areas is complete. Ground conditions on this day were variable with
patchy snow and mud in places. The weather conditions during the inspection were sunny
but extremely windy.
Signs and Markers
Mine identification signs and topsoil pile
markers were found in place and in
compliance with the requirements of
Rules 4.02 and 4.30.2(3) as applicable.
Hydrologic Balance
Pond 4 and pond 5 were both found dry.
Both pond embankments and spillways
appeared in good condition with no
problems observed. Various sections of
ditches around the site were observed
and all were found in good condition.
Sections of armored ditches show no sign
of movement or compromise of the
channel protection. Pond 5, shown
below, has an excellent length to width
ratio in addition to significant capacity to
retain any inflow of water and sediment that may occur from a large storm event.
3
