Mr. G. Russell Means .
Re: Camilletti. Pit Amendment, Adequacy Letter Response
December 19, 2008
during the site visit. and annual report. The amended acreage in the proposed
western expansion area (Phase III)-will require. an aggressive mining schedule to
ensure that all mining activities are completed in less than 5 years-. As a result,
Connell Resources anticipates the need to stockpile product materials within the
limits of the original mining area in order to ensure reclamation activities can
occur throughout the proposed westernl3-acre expansion area requested in the
Routt County SUP Extension and Amendment application... As scheduling and
spacing permit, Connell Resources will resume concurrent reclamation activities
within the original permitted mining limits.
(2),(3) and (4): Baclflling of highwalls is noted on Map F-l, but'not addressed within.
the mining or reclamation plans. Please clarify all- anticipated sources- of backfill
material, volumes need to achieve 3:1 slopes and methods of compaction of backfill
materials.
Connell Resources does not anticipate the need to import backfill material. It was
estimated that approximately 2,800 feet of the southern and eastern portion of the
western expansion area will be reclaimed with a 3:1 slope. The pit could be up to
40 feet deep (conservative estimate)`. Therefore, -the cross-sectional area of
the slope would be approximately 2,400 ft 2. The resulting fill volume is
approximately 250,000, yd3. Based on operator knowledge of the active mining
site and drill- logs, the western expansion area contains approximately 15-feet of
overburden. As a result, it is assumed that there is approximately 315,000, yd3 of_
overburden available for backfill_ on the western expansion site.
(8) Please address slopes in relation to croplands, will grade be. adequate for farm
machinery?
A majority of the reclaimed land is intended for grazing. Alfalfa will also be
planted, and the slopes proposed in the reclamation plan will not preclude farm
machinery from operating on the proposed slopes.
(9) Is there any importation of materials. anticipated? Please verify that ;Connell
Resources has an affidavit for inert fill on file for this permit if off site materials are
'being introduced to the permit area.
Due to the volume of overburden and topsoil on site, Connell Resources does not
anticipate the need to import backfill material. All backfill will utilize on-site
material.
