3.1.2 Nitrate
Nitrate concentrations exceeded PDWS consistently from December 2006 through October 2008 sampling events. The
nitrate concentrations ranged from non-detection up to a maximum of 71.3 mg/L in December 2006. The majority of the
samples were over the PDWS of 10 mg/L. There were no samples that exceeded baseline levels for nitrate during the 2008
sampling events.
Figure one shows nitrate concentrations and their respective trend lines from wells located downgradient of mining activities.
Figure two shows nitrate concentrations and their respective trend lines from wells located upgradient of mining activities. The
trend lines show a decrease in nitrate levels from wells located downgradient of the mining activities and an increase in nitrate
concentrations upgradient of mining activities. Two upgradient wells (CRMW04 and CRMW05) did show trend lines with
decreasing nitrate concentrations. There currently are not any agricultural uses immediately upgradient from these two wells.
Figures one and two are included at the end of this report.
Nitrate (as N)
Wells (CRMW) Site/Group

01 02 04 05 06 07 09 16 40 41 42 A VG
Oct-05 26.09 18.67 6.38 ---- 26.85 27.98 ---- ---- 16.8 12.36 ---- 19.3
Nov-05 23.8 17.9 12.4 24.6 25.3 31.4 U 13.5 15.2 15 6.6 16.9
Dec-05 22.1 14.8 13.8 ---- 22.3 19.5 ---- ---- 15.7 19.5 ---- 18.2
Apr-06 22.2 8.3 11 ---- 16.9 13.5 ---- ---- 12.3 14.9 ---- 14.2
Jul-06 38.4 11.6 4.43 ---- 23.7 15.7 ---- ---- 10.2 13 ---- 16.7
Oct-06 70.3 28.7 14.8 8.51 9.23 51 U 15.1 18.8 13.9 7.87 21.7
Dec-06 71.3 38.8 12.9 ---- --- ---- U 14.7 ---- ---- --- 27.5
Apr-07 31.6 43.1 4.6 ---- 15.0 ---- U 15.5 ---- 31.3 ---- 20.2
Jul-07 37.7 35.1 3.9 ---- 17.5 ---- 0.4 17.9 ---- 18.2 17.3 18.5
Oct-07 46.6 23.2 7.1 12.6 16.3 ---- 0.4 8.8 17.3 3.4 7.6 14.3
Jan-08 30.4 19.9 11.2 ---- 16.7 ---- 1.1 14.0 ---- 3.6 ---- 13.9
Apr-08 19.8 ---- 11.2 ---- 17.4 ---- 1.5 9.1 ---- 20.0 ---- 13.2
Jul-08 16.1 ---- 3.3 ---- 14.0 ---- U 6.9 ---- 16.5 ---- 9.5
Oct-08 12.6 ---- 5.8 10.9 14.5 ---- 0.6 5.5 18.4 15.1 6.8 10.0
Average 33.5 23.6 8.8 14.1 18.1 26.5 0.4 12.1 15.6 15.1 9.2 16.6
Stnd
Dev. 18.3 11.4 4.1 7.2 5.0 13.9 0.5 4.2 3.0 7.1 4.5 12.7
2007
Baseline 57.6 29.9 29.9 29.9 29.9 40.4 29.9 29.9 29.9 29.9 29.9 29.9
The average nitrate level for the entire site has decreased 1.8 mg/L to 16.6 mg/L from 2007 to 2008.
