2006 Edna Mine Vegetation Sampling Report

mine disturbance. The oak mountain shrub vegetation community represents 17% of the pre-
mine disturbance. Appropriate vegetation parameters for each reclaimed unit were compared to
the reference areas' weighted mean herbaceous cover and production values.
1.3. Summarized Results
Results of the vegetation sampling in 2006 are summarized below in Table 1-2. West Ridge
Topsoiled BRU and Moffat Topsoiled BRU met or exceeded the appropriate Bonded Reclaimed
Areas & Vegetation Performance Standards. However, West Ridge BRU: No-Topsoil and Moffat
BRU: No-Topsoil, which were combined for sampling purposes as detailed in the sampling plan,
did not meet the appropriate Bonded Reclaimed Areas & Vegetation Performance Standards.
The non-topsoiled areas exceeded the standard set by the reference areas, but these two areas
were held to a different performance standard of 47% vegetation cover. Shrub density exceeded
the Bonded Reclaimed Areas & Vegetation Performance Standards in 2005 and therefore it was
unnecessary to sample it again in 2006.
Table 1-2. 2006 Edna Mine Ve etation Results Summar
West Ridge BRU
Sampling West Ridge
' Moffat BRU:
'
& Moffat BRU
Parameter Topsoiled BRU Topsoiled No-Topsoil''
Standard 24.1 24.1 47.0
Covet 2006 Mean 40.0 39.7 30.5
`
Standard Passed
YES
YES
NO
Standard 41.6 416 n/a
Production
/m2 2006 Mean
( 149.6 _
185.2 _ n/a
g Standard Passed YES YES n/a

Standard Min 5 Species
between 3 & 40% Min 5 Species
between 3 & 40% 90% graminoids3
5% (orbs'
Rel.
