Upon completion of the mining in Phase I it will be rectangular in nature. The side
slopes will be graded to a 3H to 1V (3:1) slope. Once grading is complete overburden
and topsoil shall be distributed within 2 months. Phase II will be graded to a 3H to 1V
(3:1) slope and will also be in a rectangular shape. Once grading is complete
overburden and topsoil shall be distributed within 2 months. Once the inventory has
been removed a layer of overburden and topsoil of 3 inches will applied to the pit floor
and then reseeded in accordance with the recommendations from the Natural
Resource Conservation Service.
2a. Phase I and Phase II will be reclaimed as rangeland. The area to be reclaimed is
13.88 acres for Phase I and 9.42 acres for Phase II. The current use of the land in
the surrounding area is either rangeland or gravel pits. The choice of rangeland
follows the use of the land in the surrounding area. The side slopes will be formed
with earthmoving equipment. The pit floor will be prepared for reclamation using
earthmoving equipment such as scrapers, motorgraders and dozers.
2b. The comparison of post mining use is either rangeland or gravel pits. This is the
current use of the surrounding land.
2c. Upon notification to the Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety, the reclamation
process must be completed within a five year period. The mined area will be
reseeded with a seed mixture recommended by the Natural Resource Conservation
Service. The slopes will be graded for 3H:1 V slope to create the final topography.
No backfill material will be necessary when making the final slope. A 3HAV slope in
the pit will help combat erosion and silting of the affected land. This will eliminate the
need to stabilize any high walls. Once the grading is finished the land will be able to
be reclaimed.
2d. The topsoil shall be segregated at the pit in designated areas for the purpose of
reclamation. Sideslopes will be formed during soil extraction. The reclamation
process can be done when an area is ready.
The seeding plan consists of several different types of grasses that exist on the land.
The Natural Resource Conservation Service has identified the grasses that are on the
property. The method of seeding will be by drilling the seed. The grasses are also
shown on Map E.1.
