Colowyo C-1981-019
9 December 2008 -
Pg 3/4
Hydrologic Balance (cont.): - Sump 1 was not inspected.
- Sump 2 contained water approximately 18 inches below the top and was not
discharging at the time of the inspection. The sump was stable at the time of the
inspection.
- Sump 3 contained water approximately two feet below the top and was not
discharging at the time of the inspection. The sump was stable at the time of the
inspection.
- Sump 4 contained water approximately three feet below the top of the sump and
was not discharging at the time of the inspection. The sump was stable at the time of
the inspection.
- Sump 5 contained water to the top of the sump but was not discharging at the time
of the inspection. The sump appeared to be stable at the time of the inspection.
Water from this sump was backing up and creating a wet/muddy spot along the
Taylor Creek road.
Backfilling and Grading: - Colowyo has committed to provide two reclamation
schedules for the East Pit closure. The first plan is a short term plan that will
encompass the area around the Prospect ditch, including the sump area that is part
of the ditch which is not yet to final grade. This short term plan, in the form of a
Technical Revision, is due to the Division no later than 24 December 2008. The
second plan is a long term plan that will provide a comprehensive reclamation
schedule for the remaining East Pit, including the closure of the final pit. This long
term plan is due to the Division in the first quarter of 2009.
- There was no backfilling or grading completed in the West Pit since the last
inspection on 10 November 2008.
Topsoil: - The Bower Brothers and Anson topsoil stockpiles that are along the Section
16 Pit area have been sloped and seeded. Additionally, these topsoil stockpiles
have had a perimeter ditch cut around them to protect the topsoil resource.
Colowyo needs to take extra care with these piles because of their extremely close
proximity to the road.
General Mine Plan Compliance: - The 101 dragline is on the East Pit highwall where it
was waiting to performing reclamation (although it has not been running for several
months).
- The 102 dragline was working in the West Pit removing overburden.
- The 103 dragline was working in the West Pit removing overburden.
- The 114 shovel operation was working on removing X-Seam overburden in the X-Pod
area.
- The 115 excavator was also working on removing X-Seam overburden in the X-Pod
area.
- The operator was dumping overburden from the X-Pod area into C-C' drain area of
the East Taylor fill.
- The mining at the Colowyo Mine appears to be progressing as discussed and
approved in the PAP.
