Trapper Mine, C-1981-010
Bond Release Inspection SL-8, SL-9, and SL-10
October 13th: 1:00—5:00
October 14th: 8:00—4:00
October 151h: 8:00—2:00
October 16"': 8:00—9:00 (closeout meeting)
Weather: sunny, cool, dry
Participants:
Jason Musick (DRMS)
Dan Hernandez (DRMS)
Christine Belka(OSMRE)
Graham Roberts(TMI)
Forrest Luke (TMI) present Monday and Thursday
Jennifer Maiolo (BLM)present Tuesday
The rangeland at the west end of the mine is proposed for Phase I & II release. These areas (A-C-
04 and A-C-05) appear stable and well-vegetated. Good grass cover has been established and a
variety of plants are present (yarrow, sage, antelope bitter brush, etc). This area shows evidence
of livestock and wildlife visitation(paths, prints, burrows, etc). A small access road cuts through
A-C-04 to an approved Phase III hay/alfalfa field. The well-vegetated topsoil pile by this road
may be used to reclaim the road when it is no longer needed.
A new exploration drill hole was found on A-C-05. The surrounding area has been scraped of
vegetation and topsoil. A stake identified this hole as "08-16". The newly disturbed area will be
removed from the current bond release map so the surrounding area may proceed through
Phase I release. The scraped pad will be regraded, but its reclamation liability period will start
over at that time. The remaining Phase I area already shows vegetation diversity and natural sage
encroachment.
A gully was identified by a small "road" (Not an identified a s 4
road, but an old strip used to walk the Molly Brown dragline. `mom
Vegetation is establishing but this is still driven on ,£
occasionally) in northwestern H-C-04. The gully varies in size '
along its length, reaching a maximum of approximately 3 feet
wide x 1 foot deep (see Figure 1). The area is proposed for both
Phase I & II release. We agreed that this gully will be
repaired under TMI's approved rill and gully maintenance
plan. DRMS, and if possible OSM, will revisit this feature after
maintenance has been performed before bond release is granted.
Fig. 1:H-C-04 gully
A monitoring well dug on the southern portion of H-C-04 in 2005 or 2006 penetrated a confined
aquifer and is flowing at approximately 1 gpm. The surrounding area is muddy as a result. This
was drilled under an NOI and as such will be held to different reclamation rules. Vegetation in
the surrounding area is well-established, but patches of weeds remain—especially along the
reclaimed road. This area is a potential candidate for weed maintenance.
