The impacts to St. Vrain River have minimized through the following actions and the river water .
has been sampled as follows:
a. The contaminated slurry and most of the contaminated soil was removed and disposed of
off-site.
b. The impermeable barrier wall was installed through the area of the groundwater impacts and
effectively cut off most of the groundwater contamination plume from the river.
c. The remediation system was installed on both sides of the barrier wall and into the impacted
groundwater remaining between the barrier and the river. The remediation system has been
operating since late October 2007.
d. The plume of impacted groundwater is being monitored by groundwater monitoring wells
and additional wells are being placed to further define the plume.
e. We have established surface water gauging and monitoring points along the St. Vrain River
downstream of the subject release at 2 points. We have sampled and analyzed the water for
the constituents of concern on 9 occasions to-date during the period of 12-18-06 to 11-17-07
with no detection of benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes (BTEX) methyl tertial butyl
ether (MTBE), or other hydrocarbons. A summary table of results through 8-11-07 is
attached. The table with the 11-17-07 results is in preparation.
f. The Integrated Corrective Action Plan (ICAP) and addendum prepared in accordance with
Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) regulations to mitigate
and remediate this impact to groundwater and potential migratory impacts to surface waters
1 of 2
