Answers to Questions Dated September 14, 2007
Rule 6.4.7 Exhibit G - Water Information
Question #
11,. According to the text in Exhibit G Lake County proposes to ultimately mine
through and replace the existing Templeton Ditch. Please show where the ditch
will be relocated and submit designs for the replaced ditch as a component of the
reclamation plan. Specifically, please provide estimated flow rates that the
realigned ditch will receive, dimensions of the realigned drainage, appropriate
cross sections and how the ditch will be lined to prevent scouring.
According to the Deputy Water Commissioner for Lake County, the present and
maximum water flow for the Templeton ditch is 5 cfs and the water rights are very
junior with the last usable water during the 1997-98 water year
The Ditch realignment will be constructed to carry the 5 cfs of water flow with
generally the same dimensions as the existing ditch. The Ditch will be fined with
cobble to prevent scouring with sweeping turns to prevent erosion.
Enclosed please find drawings indicating possible relocation of the Templeton
Ditch, including detail drawings A and B. Detail A: shows the ditch in its present
location during mining activities leaving a 15 ft buffer on either side of the ditch as
access to the ditch as well as for protection of the ditch from seepage or
mechanical means. During mining operations on the south side of the ditch, the
County will install culverts in the ditch and construct roads over the ditch to
access this area. Detail B indicates a cross section of the possible ditch
relocation. Note: at a time when it is no longer feasible for the ditch to remain in
its present location i.e. when mining has occurred on both sides of the ditch
leaving the ditch elevated in the venter of the property. This would be the best
time for identification, design and implementation of the ditch relocation with the
most feasible, adequate and permanent k= ion with regards to the reclamation
of the property. The County anticipates notifying all parties concerned or affected
of any relocation or disturbance of the ditch, including Owners of Record, the
Water Commissioner and the Division before any work is done to the Ditch.
Lake County Half Moon Pit
#M-77-071
Lake County, Colorado
