Jan 29 08 11:04a Greg Lewicki and Associat
3033466934 . p.6
In order to prevent the formation of gullies and other erosion features along the slope of the pit
during the revegatation process, a two-stage revegatation plan will be used. An initial round of
seeding and mulching will take place in the spring. This will be a seed mix of temporary annuals:
Temporary Seed Mix
SueciesCommon Name Seeding Rate
1. Barley 701bs/acre
2. Winter Wheat 70 lbs/acre
3. Oats 70 lbs/acre
The temporary vegetation will be mowed before seed heads are viable to prepare for the second
stage of seeding. Also, the slopes will be roughed, and furrows will be installed via dozer to
encourage water catching during storms. The furrows will be roughly 1' in depth, 100' long
between breaks, and be placed along the contour every 3' of slope. The furrows will be placed
only along the new slopes created by additional mining from this amendment. At the end of the
summer, Elam will repair and regrade any areas of the slope on which erosion features have
formed. In the fall the permanent seeding will be drill seeded using the approved permanent seed
mix.
4. Post Reclamation Site Drainage
Almost the entire permit area will drain into the large opening which is created by mining and
will likely run towards the northeast corner of the pit. The only areas which will not drain
towards the opening created will be on lands which were not disturbed by mining or small
portions of the reclaimed topsoil stockpiles.
5. Weed Control
Elam Construction, Inc. will use BMP's to control weeds. Problem weeds will be monitored
closely each spring for as long as the permit is active to determine if they are invading the area.
Weed control will be initiated if the problem becomes serious. The Division of Minerals and
Geology will be consulted regarding any weed infestation area and any control measures prior to
their initiation. It may be necessary to control weeds by mowing after the first year; the feas-
Vagneur Pit June 07 E-5
