Colowyo C-1981-019
10 November 2008
Pg 6/6
Excess Spoil: - The reclaimed portions of the West Pit spoil pile were well vegetated
and appeared to be stable at the time of the inspection. Runoff from this portion of
the pile goes into the West Pit pond. No erosional problems were noted of the pile at
the time of the inspection. The upper portion of the pile is truck-dumped spoil. This
part of the pile appeared to be stable at the time of the inspection. The reclamation
plan calls for the top 75 feet of this pile to be hauled to the West Pit to achieve AOC.
- The Streeter fill was appeared to be stable at the time of the inspection. No
erosional problems were noted on the fill. This pile has gone through a Phase II bond
release. The fill was well vegetated at the time of the inspection.
- The Section 16 fill was appeared to be stable at the time of the inspection. No
erosional problems were noted on the fill. This pile has gone through a Phase II bond
release. The fill was well vegetated at the time of the inspection.
- The current active dump area for the South Taylor Pit is the C-C' underdrain area of
the East Taylor fill. The rock drain for this area has been completed and is covered
with filter fabric. The operator has done some end dumping in the bottom area of
the fill and there are many piles of end dumped spoil in the area. These piles will be
covered as the fill increases in height. The main dump area is along the west side of
the fill where the spoil is being dumped down the west edge to fill the valley up to
the permitted height. The area just north of the C-C' fill (on the east side of the fill)
was built up with spoil material to make a pad for the rock crusher. The rock crusher
was moved from the West Pit to be closer to the main operation in South Taylor. The
B-B' underdrain area is also in good condition. The B-B' underdrain has also been
completed and wrapped with filter fabric. There is currently no excess spoil being
dumped in the B-B' fork of the East Taylor Fill.
This completes the 10 November 2008 inspection report for the Colowyo Mine.
