Colowyo C-1981-019
10 November 2008
Pg 3/6
Hydrologic Balance (cont.): - The East Taylor Pond (NPDES O1 OA) contained a small
amount of water (one foot below the weep hole on the bottom of the riser pipe at
and 9 feet below the top of the pipe) at the time of the inspection. The pond
embankment was well vegetated and appeared to be stable at the time of the
inspection. No erosional problems noted on the embankment at the time of the
inspection. The emergency spillway is an open, trapezoidal riprapped channel. The
spillway was stable and well maintained at the time of the inspection.
- The Prospect Pond (NPDES 007A) contained water approximately six feet below the
top of the discharge pipe (just below the weep hole) but was not discharging at the
time of the inspection. The pond embankment was well vegetated at the time of the
inspection. Although water flowed over the pond embankment in August, the
embankment remains stable. The emergency spillway is an open, trapezoidal
grouted riprapped channel. The spillway was stable and well maintained at the time
of the inspection. The pond still contains the large amount of sediment and cobble
the flowed in from the storm in August. This material is scheduled to be cleaned out
beginning 17 November 2008 by Anson.
- The Gulch A Pond (NPDES 004A) contained water approximately two feet below the
bottom of the gated valve and four feet below the top of the discharge pipe and
was not discharging at the time of the inspection. The pond embankment was well
vegetated and appeared to be stable at the time of the inspection. No erosional
problems noted on the embankment at the time of the inspection. The emergency
spillway is an open, trapezoidal riprapped channel. The spillway was stable and well
maintained at the time of the inspection. Goodspring Creek was flowing (relatively
clearly) at what appeared to be a normal seasonal level at the time of the
inspection.
- The Section 16 Pond (NPDES 009) was inaccessible and not inspected (and will
probably remain inaccessible until late spring.
- The Streeter Pond (NPDES 001 A) contained water approximately three feet below
the discharge pipe and was discharging through the weep hole at the time of the
inspection. The discharge appeared to be clear. The pond embankment was well
vegetated and appeared to be stable at the time of the inspection. No erosional
problems noted on the embankment at the time of the inspection. The discharge
from the Streeter Pond enters Goodspring Creek then flows through a large culvert
under Colorado Highway 13. This culvert is owned and maintained by CDOT. The
emergency spillway is an open, trapezoidal riprapped channel. The spillway was
stable and well maintained at the time of the inspection. There is a large amount of
sediment in the Streeter Pond. The Streeter Pond is scheduled to be cleaned this fall
after the Prospect Pond is cleaned.
- The Section 28 Pond (NPDES 012A) was muddy at the bottom (basically dry) and
was not discharging at the time of the inspection. The vegetation on the
embankment is growing well and will benefit greatly from a wet winter and another
growing season. The pond embankment appeared to be stable and no erosional
problems were noted at the time of the inspection. The emergency spillway is an
open, trapezoidal riprapped channel. The spillway was stable and well maintained
at the time of the inspection.
