7 R iA •
September 1996 -5- 963-2128.002
2.2 Chemical Characterization of Biosolids to be Applied to the Robinson Tailings
Impoundment
Table 1 presents the potential sources of biosolids for the Robinson Tailings Impoundment
revegetation program and biosolids analytical results from each publicly operated treatment
works (POTW). The Cu concentrations in biosolids from source POTWs are well below
EPA's maximum pollutant concentrations for land application of biosolids (i.e., Cu 5 1,500
mg/kg). Based on the composite average Cu concentration from all source-POTWs of 621
mg/kg and the biosolids application rate of 30 dry tons/acre proposed by Climax, the Cu
loading rate on the Robinson Tailing Impoundment will be approximate 37.2 lbs./acre. A
biosolids application rate of 1080 tons/acre would be required to exceed the cumulative Cu
pollutant loading rate of 1339.5 lbs/acre (40 CFR Part 503, Table 2).
TABLE 1
COPPER CONCENTRATIONS (MG/KG ON A DRY WEIGHT BASIS)
IN BIOSOLIDS
GENERATED BY SOURCE-POTWs
`>
`'
............:::.....:...............
::::::::.. ........
...............:..:..........
.....:::...:::...............
v`••f•::::.:. } .pua*Y'MM. .....
:._iiii};{•iiiijj::j;:>$i::j;::t:iiiii:
ii
4yiy:: ........ .. ...
